The seventeenth edition of the “International Festival of the Mediterranean Theater of Purgatory” this year will be of a competitive nature in which seven plays will be performed, while the Tivat Culture Center in co-production with the Montenegrin National Theater will perform the play “Deceased”, based on the text of Branislav Nu\u0161i\u0107.<\/p>\n
The director of the Culture Center, Dijana Sindik, reminded that in the past two pandemic years, the festival did not have a competitive character but a show, while this summer it will take place in its original character.<\/p>\n
“The pandemic has confronted us with daily re-examinations of our own lives, as well as with asking questions about the future of the world. Illness and wars in a tragic way revived the essential questions of our existence, the fate of the world and man in it. Those questions have always been the key questions of theater art”.<\/p>\n
She pointed out that the slogan of this year’s festival is “Masquerade 6+1” and it refers to a motif that has been present in literature and theater since antiquity.<\/p>\n

Seven plays will be shown at the festival, and the audience will be able to see six drama and one dance performance.<\/p>\n
“Consent, directed by Neboj\u0161a Bradi\u0107, Miracle in the \u0160argan, directed by Jago\u0161 Markovi\u0107, Don Quixote, directed by Andra\u0161 Urban, Masquerade under the bath directed by Paolo Ti\u0161ljari\u0107, Ibi the great, directed by Andra\u0161 Urban, The deceased, directed by Egon Savin, and Choreographer Sokolov’s Song will be shown and director Gabor Mihalji”.<\/p>\n
About 282,000 euros have been allocated from the budget for holding the festival this year, which is 40 percent more than last year, said Tivat Municipality President \u017deljko Komnenovi\u0107.<\/p>\n
“The municipality allocated around 630,000 euros as support for the activities of the Center for Culture this year, which means that we want to put the cultural scene of Tivat on an enviable level. “Purgatorija is an important festival not only for the municipality of Tivat, but also for the country, and it continues its mission, which is to offer the highest quality of the theater offer in the region,” he said.<\/p>\n
Komnenovi\u0107 said that it is also important that Purgatorija has a really high-quality cooperation with the Montenegrin National Theater and that the play Deceased according to the text of Branislav Nu\u0161i\u0107 was born out of that cooperation in a joint co-production.<\/p>\n
Zorana Kralj PR of the Montenegrin National Theater pointed out that CZK Tivat is recognized as an institution that has a really relevant theater production and that has created or participated in the creation of important theater performances.<\/p>\n
“For a long time, Nu\u0161i\u0107’s work was not performed in Montenegro. The last time his play was staged at CNP was back in 1973. It is also important that the direction and adaptation is signed by one of the most respected theater directors, Egon Savin, who is considered an excellent connoisseur of Nu\u0161i\u0107’s work”.<\/p>\n
Kralj points out that it is a piece that is contemporary and fully adapted to the Montenegrin milieu and context, and which they believe will be able to communicate with today’s viewer.<\/p>\n
In addition to the competitive drama program, a music and dance program was prepared as part of Purgatorio.<\/p>\n
Jelena Kajgo, the selector of the Dance Theater Festival, said that in this segment of Purgatory they have five programs, and it will be opened with the ballet of the Croatian National Theater from Rijeka.<\/p>\n
