Petanz and Tivat Sign Letter of Intent for Twinning
As part of the celebration of November 21 – Municipality Day in Tivat, Mayor Željko Komnenović and the Mayor of Petanz (Luxembourg), Jean-Marie Halsdorf, signed a Letter of Intent, officially establishing a twinning relationship between the two cities. The delegation from Petanz, led by Mayor Halsdorf, is on a three-day visit to Tivat.
Mayor Halsdorf described the cooperation with Tivat as significant both personally and for Luxembourg and Petanz. “We are at the beginning, hopefully of a successful partnership. Partnership means we share common interests and certain similarities. Tivat is a small town in the Balkans, Luxembourg is a small country in Europe. You have a carnival in June, and we have one in March.” He also emphasized the importance of the large Montenegrin diaspora in Luxembourg.
“I hope we will succeed in exchanging best practices and organizing joint activities in culture, sports… During the summer, there is a direct flight from Luxembourg to Tivat. This allows people from Luxembourg to visit your beautiful city, which we will certainly encourage, building a strong partnership,” Halsdorf stated during the meeting.
Mayor Željko Komnenović expressed satisfaction with the connection between the two cities: “The signing of the Twinning Act will follow in March in Luxembourg. Our future cooperation will involve cultural and economic exchanges, as well as joint projects. It all started with the connection between the two carnivals. Last summer, members of the Petanz delegation were our guests. There are numerous shared relations. We hope for a successful and fruitful cooperation.”
This marks the third reciprocal visit between Tivat and Petanz. The formalization of cooperation is the result of linking the two carnival celebrations – the International Carnival in Tivat and the Cavalcade Carnival in Petanz.
