Grand Opening of the New “Branko Brinić” Elementary School in Tivat
Today, with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, the renovated “Branko Brinić” Elementary School in Tivat was officially opened, providing students, teaching staff, and the local community with a modern educational facility built to the highest pedagogical and construction standards.
The event was attended by Minister of Education, Science and Innovation Prof. Dr. Anđela Jakšić Stojanović, State Secretaries of the Ministry of Public Works Marko Jokić and Rusmir Džudžević, President of the Municipality of Tivat Željko Komnenović, as well as members of parliament, local government representatives, educational institutions, and other distinguished guests.
The ribbon was cut by Minister Jakšić Stojanović, President Komnenović, and the Director of the “Branko Brinić” Elementary School, Ivica Tošev, followed by a tour of the school and a presentation of the completed works.
Minister Jakšić Stojanović emphasized that investing in educational infrastructure is one of the key priorities of her ministry: “With the opening of the reconstructed ‘Branko Brinić’ Elementary School, we demonstrate a clear commitment to creating safe and high-quality learning environments for children throughout Montenegro. Modern spaces, adapted to the needs of students and teachers, form the foundation for quality education and long-term community development.”
State Secretary Marko Jokić highlighted the project’s significance from a public infrastructure perspective: “The reconstruction was carried out in accordance with modern construction and functional standards, with a special focus on safety, energy efficiency, and long-term sustainability. This project is an example of effective institutional cooperation to create infrastructure that meets the needs of contemporary society.”
President Komnenović expressed pride in the project: “From today, 200 students from Radovići and surrounding areas will continue their education in a modern school building, which is a boost for our children, their growth, and development. The building is connected to the newly constructed water and sewage system, and the municipality continues its investment in infrastructure.”
Komnenović also thanked Minister Jakšić Stojanović for her collaboration, noting it as an example of how local and national authorities can positively impact citizens’ quality of life. The municipality will continue with the reconstruction of two branch units of OŠ “Drago Milović” in Gradiošnica and Donja Lastva and pursue construction of a new elementary school building in Župa.
The reconstruction of the school and kindergarten in Radovići began in September 2023, replacing the old prefabricated building from the early 1980s, which was in poor condition. The new facility, built practically from scratch, forms a modern educational complex with a total gross construction area of 3,131.85 m².
The spatial organization clearly separates the elementary school and kindergarten functions, with a focus on safety and quality of stay. Architecturally, the building blends into the coastal and natural environment, while the site is fully fenced for safety.
The facility includes modern classrooms, a library, cafeteria, sports hall with associated facilities, and an administrative block with a separate entrance. Part of the space is designated for the Tivat Music School branch, and the building also houses the “Bambi” kindergarten branch. The yard is functionally divided between the school and kindergarten areas.
The total value of the completed works, including construction, landscaping, and equipment, amounts to €5,087,867.98.
With the opening of the renovated “Branko Brinić” Elementary School, Tivat now has a modern, safe, and functional educational space, representing a major advancement in educational infrastructure and quality of education for the youngest students.
