Twinning Agreement Signing Announced for Tivat Municipality Day

A delegation from the city of Petanz, Luxembourg, led by Mayor Jean-Marie Halsdorf, is on a reciprocal multi-day visit to Tivat during the fifth International Carnival. The President of the Municipality, Željko Komnenović, hosted a reception for the guests from Luxembourg today, where representatives of the two cities discussed the modalities of future cooperation.

Komnenović informed the media that during the meeting, discussions focused on further ways to connect the two cities, which will result in the signing of a Twinning Agreement. “We agreed that all administrative procedures will be completed by Tivat Municipality Day, and during that period we will sign the twinning agreement.” He emphasized that he is pleased this cooperation is taking place through the International Tivat Carnival and noted that Petanz and Tivat are further connected by existing flight routes to Luxembourg. Planned areas of cooperation include culture, education, sports, and tourism.

“We have noticed that we share many similarities with your country and city – we share the same values, and what we want is to build a bridge based on friendship, solidarity, and democratic principles. Both cities, Petanz and Tivat, have a carnival, and in Petanz there is a Balkan diaspora 670 people, of whom 205 are from Montenegro – which provides a solid foundation for a joint path into the future,” emphasized the mayor of Petanz. He also noted that Petanz maintains cooperation with Maribor in Slovenia, as well as with cities in Italy and Germany.

The President of the Tivat Municipal Assembly, Miljan Marković, who visited Petanz in April this year together with the Director of the Tivat Cultural Center, Goran Božović, expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and his readiness to contribute to fostering a friendly relationship between the two cities. During the meeting of the two mayors, Božović highlighted the potential of the International Carnival in Tivat as an event, particularly in terms of connecting with other cities in the region and across Europe.

The guests from Petanz were also welcomed in the office of the President of the Municipality by Tivat’s Deputy Mayor, Jovan Brinić, and the Municipal Manager, Ivona Petrović. The Petanz delegation included Romain Mertzig and Maria Agostino, both members of the city council; Serge Breyer, Head of the Culture Department in Petanz; and entrepreneurs Gilles Inglebert and Semin Ćivović from Petanz.
