Tivat and Kavadarci Become Twin Towns
The Presidents of the Municipalities of Tivat and Kavadarci (North Macedonia), Željko Komnenović and Mitko Jančev, signed a Memorandum of Twinning yesterday, formalizing cooperation between the two cities, connected by carnival traditions and celebrations.
“On the day of the liberation of our city, Kavadarci, September 7, we had the honor of signing the twinning memorandum together with the Mayor of Tivat. Through this, we formally commit to strengthening friendly relations and cooperation between our local governments in areas such as tourism, youth, sports, culture, and economy, in accordance with legal competencies and respecting the laws of both countries,” said Kavadarci Mayor Mitko Jančev.
The President of the Municipality of Tivat, Željko Komnenović, emphasized that formalizing the relationship opens numerous opportunities for the development of both cities. “I am pleased to have had the opportunity to sign this document with Mr. Jančev, and on the occasion of Kavadarci’s Liberation Day. We will continue the cooperation in November during their reciprocal visit to Tivat for our city’s celebration. There are many opportunities for collaboration, primarily in tourism, culture, and economy, and I hope we will make the most of them for the benefit of both Tivat and Kavadarci,” Komnenović stated.
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum formalizing the cooperation was attended by the Ambassador of Montenegro to North Macedonia, Zoran Miljanić, as well as the Presidents of the Municipal Assemblies of the two municipalities, Miljan Marković and Stojančo Ramov.
Komnenović and Marković also attended the Tikveš Grape Harvest festival, the ceremonial session of the Kavadarci Municipal Assembly, and the large carnival along with other events organized by the hosts.
The Tivat carnival group Maškarada, a regular participant in this event, also took part in the grand carnival.
The Municipality of Kavadarci is located in the southern part of North Macedonia and is the center of the Tikveš region, known for its vineyards and wine production. According to the 2021 census, the city has a population of 32,000.
