PRESIDENT CONGRATULATES RAMA BROTHERS UNIVERSITY ENROLLMENT
The president of the municipality of Tivat, Dr. Siniša Kusovac, welcomed the Rama brothers, the first university students members of the RE population from Tivat in his cabinet. Brothers Rama, Fatmir and Valjmir are enrolled at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Montenegro in Podgorica, years 2020/21.
"Your decision to continue your education and acquire higher education is essential for your further life progress, because the knowledge you acquire at the university is a guarantee of your better future," said the President of the Municipality on this occasion. He added that the Municipality of Tivat is especially proud of this success of Tivat students belonging to the RE population, having in mind the great effort and funds that the Municipality invests to support and encourage the education of children belonging to this minority population.
The Rama brothers thanked for the reception and in a conversation with the president mentioned that they are about to resolve the issue of student accommodation in Podgorica, but that they are ready and willing to study in order to gain a diploma and knowledge. President Kusovac presented them with appropriate gifts.
"In the past 4 years, the Municipality of Tivat has invested more than 150,000.00 € in projects that directly affect the incentive for the RE population to enroll children in kindergartens and schools, and that children do not leave the education system before the end of primary school," said Darka Ognjanovic, Secretary of the Secretariat for Youth Sport and Social Affairs, which deals with human and minority rights issues essential to the RE population. Fees to mediators and teaching assistants operating in the elementary school "Drago Milović" through the Office for Integration of Roma and Egyptians, scholarships for high school students belonging to the RE population, school bags and accessories, transportation of school and kindergarten children, New Year's packages… are just part of activities funded by the Municipality Tivat.
Continuous support is also provided to the projects of the NGO "Association of Egyptians and Roma" from Tivat. The Municipality of Tivat operates in accordance with the Local Plan for Social Inclusion of Roma and Egyptians for the period 2017-2021. This Plan, as well as numerous other municipal decisions in this area, aim to improve the position of the Roma and Egyptian populations, the realization and protection of their human rights, but also their integration into the local society.
