The reception for successful athletes from Tivat
The Mayor of the Municipality of Tivat, Željko Komnenović, hosted and rewarded Tivat athletes today who achieved notable sports results during the previous year at various competitions of different levels.
"Congratulations on everything you have achieved. We are organizing this reception now, but what you have accomplished, primarily through your effort and love for sports, has no expiration date. Tivat athletes had a large number of appearances at national, regional, and even world competitions, and that tells me that the initiative to increase the budget for sports has been justified," said the mayor addressing the athletes.
Among them were medalists at the World Youth Petanque Championship - Gracija Stjepčević (gold and bronze), Ilija Belan (bronze), and Igor Petković (bronze). Tivat judokas also achieved notable results in 2023: Stefan Kovinić, who won a gold medal at the Balkan Junior Championship, and Milana Stevanović, the national champion for cadets and bronze medalist at the Balkan Junior Championship.
Also present at the reception were young basketball players Valentina Vrcan, Katarina Radulović, and Maša Praščević, who won a silver medal with the Montenegro women's cadet national team at the European Basketball Championship - B division, securing participation in a higher level of competition. Marija Marković, a triathlete who won a gold medal at the Balkan Triathlon Championship in the past year, also received congratulations and a cash prize. Una Marija Kokot, a member of the dance club "Diamond" from Tivat, who won a gold medal at the European Dance Championship, was also present at the reception.
"I know how much effort you have put into achieving these and such results, as I am an athlete myself. What I can offer is the unconditional support of the local government on the path to achieving even greater success," emphasized Olivera Mišković Vidojević, the Secretary for Social Activities of the Municipality of Tivat.
The mayor highlighted that the existing sports infrastructure in the city is not at a commendable level and is far from matching the sports successes of this magnitude. However, the process of strengthening it has begun, and a smaller complex of sports fields has already been built in Donja Lastva. Soon, Tivat athletes will also have access to an inflatable sports hall near the Health Center. "We also have the support of the Government to move towards the realization of a sports complex across from Tivat Airport, to get additional space for missing facilities such as an indoor pool," stated Komnenović.
