“Tivat candidate to host the international sailing race ‘The Ocean Race Europe 2025’.”
The Mayor of Tivat, Željko Komnenović, and the Executive Director of the company Omega Team, Vladimir Šparović, today signed a Memorandum of Cooperation for the implementation of the project to acquire the host status for a part of the international sailing race "The Ocean Race Europe 2025" (TORE2025). The Memorandum focuses on providing support for activities aimed at Tivat and Boka Kotorska being selected as hosts for a part of this prestigious event, scheduled to take place in the Bay of Kotor in September 2025.
The international race "TORE2025" is planned for the end of summer 2025, starting in the Baltic and finishing in the Mediterranean, with five stops along the route. This globally recognized race promotes ocean protection and brings together a large number of participants.
"The Municipality of Tivat recognizes the exceptional importance of the event and is pleased to be involved in its realization," said Mayor Komnenović. He expressed the readiness of the local administration to support the organization within its competencies and available capacities, providing technical assistance and actively participating in promotional activities.
The President of the Organizing Committee in Montenegro for TORE2025, Executive Director of Omega Team, Vladimir Šparović, stated that confirming the candidacy for this sports event in Tivat would bring a large number of participants, media, and other organizations, further solidifying the city's position on the map of nautical sports and tourism. "The Ocean Race is among the world's leading sailing events and is celebrating its 50th year this year. The Bay of Kotor and Montenegro, through our company, have expressed interest in organizing, and with the support of the Municipality of Tivat and the Government of Montenegro, we hope for a successful confirmation of the candidacy. The event is specific because it has not only a sports but also a very important educational character, involving a series of activities with the local community on environmental protection and the preservation of the sea and oceans."
The signing of the Memorandum was attended by the Secretary for Social Activities, Olivera Mišković Vidojević, and representatives of The Ocean Race organization – its Executive Director Johan Strid and Communications and Collaboration Consultant with host cities, Beatriz Beeckmans, who also gave a brief presentation of this event.
