March 5th – World Energy Efficiency Day
Energy efficiency is an area that is often mentioned in the world and Europe, and given that one of the strategic goals of our country is a membership of the European Union, energy efficiency in our country should and must rise to a higher level in every segment of social action. However, as Montenegro and the whole world have been primarily struggling with health problems and the pandemic that has befallen the world for the last year, many other segments of society and social development have been put in the background.
March 5th, the World Energy Efficiency Day, is marked as part of the first meeting of world energy experts held in Austria, on this day in 1998, to discuss the global energy crisis and its possible solutions.
Energy efficiency in the broadest sense of the word means the reduction of energy losses and its efficient use in all areas of work, life and practical activities. Thus, energy efficiency means reducing energy consumption without compromising comfort or living standards.
Each of us can reduce energy consumption without disturbing our comfort, and in addition to the global contribution, we can also contribute to saving our own money.
Energy efficiency is directly related to environmental protection, as it promotes the use of renewable energy sources (sun, wind, rivers, etc.), so the attitude towards the environment should be a more responsible one. In that sense, the Municipality of Tivat implements activities and projects precisely in order to increase energy efficiency and a more responsible attitude towards the environment.
The goal of the Municipality of Tivat is the development of the municipality as a city where balanced economic development, spatial planning and environmental protection would be main priorities. In addition, when it comes to the environment and energy efficiency, awareness of the social community makes a very important factor.
This year, traditionally, on Friday, March 5, in front of the Municipality building, and in accordance with epidemiological measures against the spread of the virus, the Municipality of Tivat will mark the World Energy Efficiency Day, by distributing energy efficient LED light bulbs for citizens and visitors and will share important tips on energy saving in everyday life.
Energy consumption of light bulbs with LED light source is many times lower than of those light bulbs made by traditional technology. The Municipality of Tivat has been implementing the action of distributing energy efficient light bulbs to citizens for 10 years in a row.
Finally, a little reminder for all, the state of Montenegro, following the European trends in the field of energy efficiency, passed the Rulebook which gradually from 2018, banned the classic incandescent bulbs from the market.
